Atlanta, GA, July 19, 2021: On Thursday, July 15th, Dr. Sreeni R. Gangasani, and Dr. Subrahmanya Bhat, were appointed to the Georgia Composite Medical Board (GCMB) by Governor Brian Kemp. The two doctors will join 13 other voting members and one other ex-officio member on the GCMB.
The Board is responsible for licensing most physicians and medical professionals in the state of Georgia and enforcing the Medical Practice Act. It also manages complaints and violations of medical practices and has the ability to revoke licenses.
Their mission statement reads, “The mission of the Georgia Composite Medical Board is to protect the health of Georgians through the proper licensing of physicians and certain members of the healing arts and through the objective enforcement of the Medical Practice Act.”
Both Dr. Bhat and Dr. Gangasani, as well as all other members on the Board, were personally appointed by the Governor and vetted by state senators. In addition, each board member serves four years on committees that all serve different tasks. By being appointed, both Dr. Bhat and Gangasani have shown incredible dedication and experience in the medical field. Both doctors have also continued to represent the Indian-American community through their past leadership roles.
Dr. Sreeni Gangasani graduated from Kurnool Medical College of University of Health Sciences, and continued to become the Chief of the Department of Medicine at Gwinnett Health System. Throughout his medical journey, Dr. Gangasani also represented his Indian-American heritage by being President of the Georgia Association of Physicians of Indian Heritage (GAPI). The organization’s convention and banquet in 2015 was actually visited by Governor Kemp when he was the Secretary of State. Dr. Gangasani still continues to volunteer with the organization today.
“During these difficult and challenging times due to the Covid pandemic and changing practice styles with more telehealth being used, I would like to be part of the team to help provide quality health care to patients without putting undue strain on healthcare providers,” Dr Gangasani said.
“As foreign medical graduates have somewhat different type of concerns and issues, I have better a understanding of their problems and am able to help the members to make the correct decision,” he added.
Dr. Gangasani has also served as secretary of Andhra Pradesh Physicians and Professionals of North America (APNA), and was awarded the Circle of Hope award for compassion in Medicine in 2012 and 2017. He specializes in cardiology and has excellent rapport with all of his patients. Dr. Gangasani was also featured in FOX 5 Atlanta news and Khabar Magazine for his efforts during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
